What You Need to Know
Description:
Ground Mount Solar Array, consisting of 20 LG NeON2 LG315N1CG4 315W Solar Panels, 20 Enphase S28060240 S22 Microinverters, Enphase Envoy-S Communications Gateway, ProSolar GroundTrac Mounting System. As of spring 2017, we are scheduled to have 2 Tesla PowerWalls installed in July.
Other Benefits:
We ran our A/C all summer on days over ~82* and still didn't draw from SDG&E.
Maintenance Requirements:
None so far. Plan to wash panels after rainy season and quarterly after that.
Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:
We previously replaced our windows, and have since replaced all bulbs in our house with LEDs. We plan to add attic insulation and redo our attic ducting.
My Motivation:
Reduce our high electricity usage due to A/C and pool.
Advice:
Get as many quotes as you can. Take all factors into consideration and fully understand the pros and cons. We got four quotes and three of them automatically recommended a much less efficient roof mount. One installer immediately recognized that we could do a much more efficient ground mount solar array on our larger property. That's the one we went with.
Experience with Installer:
Had a great experience with our salesperson, Dustin Merkeley. Permitting requirements from the City of San Diego delayed our project for months due to being a ground mount and in fire zone 2. Once permitting was finally hurdled, installation went quickly.
Additional Notes:
We have a 1 acre property with the undeveloped back hill facing almost due south. This provided the opportunity to have a perfectly located ground mount solar array, optimized for maximum output.
