What You Need to Know
Description:
23 panels rated 420 watts on roof section facing south east in SW Florida. System includes one Powerwall 3. The purpose of the system is to provide backup for occasions when the grid goes down. The integral inverter in the Powerwall 3 reduced the panel cost by eliminating each panel’s micro-inverter. Previously I was quoted $25 k for a generator with buried propane tank, so after the federal tax credit, my net cost for the solar system with battery backup will have the lowest cost. System was activated the day before Helene passed by, and provided power when Milton knocked the grid down for 22 hrs. The Tesla app recharged the Powerwall to 100% when storm watch was issued and WiFi thermostat enabled me to set the AC to 76F while off grid. When the sun started recharging the battery the next day, we still had 50% charge left. Success!
My Motivation:
Previous multi-day power outages and dislike of handling gas or propane during an emergency.
Advice:
Energysage enabled me to get 5 quotes and compare the proposals on a common structure, without being pestered or pressured.
Experience with Installer:
Very professional, respectful, adaptable and interested in satisfying our needs.
Additional Notes:
Opening building permit with city was delayed by lost mail. Once address, scheduling the install was quick and convenient.
