Sundog Solar LLC is locally owned and operated family-owned business. Our customers have direct access to the owners of the business for support.

Founded in 2009, we quickly began changing Maine’s energy paradigm one rooftop at a time. We now install dozens of residential, municipal, and commercial solar systems annually, and provide solar system monitoring on every system where it is technologically feasible. We currently have over 200 customers monitoring their systems online with the largest systems being the town of Waldoboro with a 111.7 kW system and Pratt Chevrolet, Buick GMC with a 100 kW system.

Sundog Solar is committed to making solar energy affordable and available throughout Maine. We achieve this by offering reasonable prices, financing options, power purchase agreements, and an expertly trained installation crew with Maine State licensed electricians and a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners lead photovoltaic installer. Many members of the Sundog Solar team live in solar-powered homes and are dedicated to helping Maine reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

We also offer power purchase agreements that allow municipalities to save on their electrical rates. Sundog Solar assumes responsibility for maintaining and repairing the solar system while providing affordable solar power to our clients.

We have designed and installed solar systems under a power purchase agreement for the Town of Stockton Springs, Waldoboro, and Bristol that save taxpayers money and allow the clients to purchase the system after six years or to continue purchasing power at a discounted rate. The Town of Tremont recently entered an agreement with Sundog Solar to install a 153 kW system on its capped landfill site.

Sundog Solar is committed to educating the community about the benefits of clean energy. We have offered solar tours, regularly publish a solar news blog on our website, and given presentations at the Common Ground Fair and for Maine Conservation Voters. We also have a free electric car vehicle charging station on our office in Searsport that is open to the public and powered by solar energy.

Our ability to successfully tackle large project is due in part to the electrical knowledge of our team. For Pratt Chevrolet, Buick GMC and the Town of Bristol, we upgraded the electrical service from 120/240V single phase service to a 277/480V three phase service to efficiently integrate the new array to the electric grid.

The Sundog Solar team also relies on partnerships with highly-qualified professionals to utilize their technological expertise. We’ve worked with an electrical engineer, a civil engineer regarding stormwater runoff, and structural engineers for project support.

There is a large need for battery-based solar electric systems throughout Maine due to the large geographic area vs. population density. Many people don’t have access to traditional grid power for a reasonable cost and reliable power during large storms. Sundog is highly experienced with battery-based solar PV system design and integration. We are sensitive to this need and we work with many off-grid folks to provide high-quality systems.

We are very proud of our continued commitment to our customers after their installation. We continue to service many of our original customers from our first year of business. We offer ongoing maintenance and repair services for all systems we install under power purchase agreements. This is an annual service agreement that allows the town to have insurance that they will be able to continue to get the system worked on into the future.

Quality Solar Installation Crew

Sundog Solar recently repaired my solar system (which was installed by another company). The solar installers were professional, courteous, and tidy. Their prices were also very reasonable compared to the competition. They also installed some solar systems in my neighborhood and the installers were willing to answer my questions and cleaned up well after themselves.
