At the age of 21, Herve Billiet designed Belgium's first solar car and then was invited by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to help advance its sustainable transportation programs. Joe Marhamati served in the White House as Energy Advisor to the Obama administration, where he spearheaded multiple governmental initiatives including the Capital Solar Challenge. Good, better, best

Let me start by describing myself: retired military officer + DIYer + worked construction with my father before joining the military + purchased/installed solar on a house in CA = I believe I recognized what “right” looks like. The good: it is very satisfying and reassuring to work with a company that displays honesty and integrity. Throughout the entire process I observed nothing but the highest level of professionalism and respect from ALL Ipsun personnel to include the installation team. Whether it was answering my detailed questions during the pre-sale period to the dialogue during and after installation, the entire team was polite and took time to address my questions. The better: Patrick, my sales consultant, provided constant communication with me before, during, and after I signed the contract. Yes, every sales person will answer your call as they try to close the deal but Patrick went above and beyond through the whole process. Specifically, after we contracted for the system, but before install, a new product came on the market and Patrick worked with me to add this new item to my system even though it meant a change and re-permitting the system. He/Ipsun chose my interest and customer satisfaction overtop of the installation schedule. One very important note, when the new product came to market I simply asked Patrick if I could incorporate the new micro-inverters; it was Patrick that did all the work to make the change occur. I would argue that not many companies would do this especially after they already had my signature and down payment. Lastly, several weeks after the install was complete and Dominion transitioned my account to net-metering I noticed a discrepancy with my Dominion account. I emailed Patrick after 10 PM with my concerns with the hopes of him replying the next day. To my surprise, he replied within 10 minutes -who answers emails at 10:30 PM - Patrick does! In my opinion, this level of “service after the sale” is uncommon today. The same level of commitment, communication, and customer service was displayed by Brandon my Ipsun project manager. He kept me informed along every phase of the entire process and worked with me to schedule the installation and electrical work. The best: I researched 6 different companies when looking for a solar installer. I set up a spreadsheet and compared the companies across all the following categories: price, industry reputation, build/quality and warranty of their panels, reviewed their company websites, and read online reviews. Ipsun ranked in the best in every category across the board. For performance, it’s been 6 months since the system became operational, each month has exceed the projected numbers by just over 10%, of course each system is different so results will vary. In summary, I am extremely happy with Ipsun, and recommend you talk with them if you are considering solar. The entire team exceeded my expectations across the sales, permitting, installation, and level of communication during the process. Whether you choose Ipsun or not, thank you for your interest in joining the solar community.

Great system, excellent install experience

I have a system installed by IPSUN. Installation occurred during COVID so there were lots of hassles with the town Bldg inspector and power company however Ipsun helped navigate them all. Ipsun had good relationship with Bldg inspector and electric company so that helped. There is bureaucracy to deal with (Fairfax County!) but Ipsun was able to manage it all for me and made it easy. Install was fast and professionally done - install team was pleasure to work with. System is great - most months my electric bill is ZERO, and I have two electric cars! Ipsun's CEO HERVE came to my house to turn the system on! Not sure if everyone gets that VIP treatment but I appreciated it and enjoyed speaking with him about all things solar - he knows a lot! He is really committed to the mission of solar, which I appreciate. I would highly recommend working with Ipsun, and I would be happy to discuss with anyone who is looking for more detailed info. Ipsun also helped me sign up to sell carbon offset credits SREC (solar renewable energy offset). I just got a check for almost $900 in December! Very happy about that.

Thanks

IPSun has been fantastic from the initial install to helping with snow guards and definitely recommending to family, friends and neighbors. The panels give me more than enough electricity and recharge my electric car. Love it. Thanks. John

Love love love Ipsun!

I recently had Ipsun install solar panels on my home in Mt Pleasant DC and they did a phenomenal job! Had a great experience from start to finish and my power bill is basically gone!

Painful to work with and poor quality

We have had a terrible experience getting our solar panels installed by Ipsun because of four issues with their work: 1) They overpromise and under deliver - we were originally given a quote for 20 panels, which was more panels than quotes we received from other companies. I’m not sure if they aren’t good at initial estimates or if they were intentionally generous to get us on the hook. Our final system was only 13 panels, which is smaller than any quotes we originally received. 2) They are extremely slow - I signed a contract with Ipsun 7 months ago, panels were put up more than 2 months ago and I still can’t turn my solar panels on. They blamed the city and power company for adding time into the process, but my neighbor chose a different solar company (after we signed with Ipsun!) and didn’t experience any of the same delays. My neighbor’s panels have been on for 5 months now and went up within 4 weeks of signing their contract. 3) Poor communication - It felt like pulling teeth to get people at Ipsun to respond to our emails and we regularly went 4-6 weeks without hearing from them. I had to ask multiple times that they keep both my husband and I copied on emails to us. Our project manager failed to let us know when things were happening, for instance he didn’t tell us he had submitted a Dig Safe request, so we were surprised to have someone on our property marking power lines one day. 4) Poor quality - On install day they called to tell us that our new roof (put on by the contractor they recommended!) had bigger vents than the original roof and we lost another panel. We had asked if they needed to do a second site survey after the new roof was put on and we were told no, which would have avoided the surprise with the vents. Then our system failed its inspection from the city because it wasn’t grounded properly. After supposedly passing the second inspection on the electric, they had some sort of permit issue and now we are waiting on a THIRD inspection. We chose Ipsun to install our solar panels because they had done my friend’s system a year earlier and he had been really happy with their work. My theory is that in the year between my friend’s install and ours that Ipsun grew too quickly and they have been unable to keep up with demand or that they have failed to either adequately train their new staff or failed to get their staff the resources they need to do their jobs effectively. Either way, I recommend going with a different solar installer until they figure themselves out.

Stellar Experience

Ipsun Solar installed our solar panels in 2019. The process was easy and everyone we dealt with along the way was super friendly and professional, and their prices were very competitive. Also, they've followed up to make sure we're happy and proactively enrolled us to receive SREC credits to save money on our taxes. I can't say enough good things about this company. I'm so glad we decided to go solar. Due to some energy efficiency improvements we made prior to this year, we have covered 100% of our electric bills in 2021, which feels great.
